Friday 26 November 2021 - Sunday 28 November 2020

Registration: Friday 26 November, 5-7pm, Oturehua Hall
Race Briefing:  26 November, 7pm, Oturehua Hall (Compulsory)
Race Start: To be confirmed

Entry Fee: $200/pp 

The 24HR Adventure Race is a navigation race, with teams being supplied with maps.  Check point locations are pre-marked.  There is a race guide to assist your team to navigate through the race.

Support Crew: Support crews are unnecessary as each leg of the race is run from a central hub.  If the course requires that gear needs to be moved for a leg, then this will be organised by the race.

Race Disciplines: The race may feature sections of paddling, rafting, mountain biking, trekking/running and abseiling

Completion Times: The 24HR course is set so that the fastest teams should be able to complete it in around 14-16 hours, while the endurance end of the pack might like to stay out for longer, with a maximum time allowed to complete the race of 24 hours.

The Race Hub & Finish Line

The Race Hub will be located at Oturehua and Finish Line location will be revealed closer to race day, but will be located somewhere central to the race in the  Oturehua area

Race Hub: This is where registration and gear checks will occur.  There will be plenty of parking and space for you to organise and prepare your kit and your team for the race.  This will be a good place for supporters/spectators to get a slice of the action and greet competitors as they finish.

Camping: Free limited camping will be available at the Oturehua domain

SHOWERS WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER THE RACE FOR A GOLD COIN DONATION 

Post Race: There will be a breakfast provided (breakfast included in the entry fee) for competitors at the prize giving - 8:30am Sunday 28 November.

Opportunity to discuss nav choices etc and bask in the post race glow of having completed such an epic event.

Prize Giving: Prize giving will be held  from 8:30am on Sunday 28 November.

Team Captains enter the whole team.

The entry information that the Team Captain will require:

  • Team Name

  • Team Category/Event

  • Team member names, mobile phone numbers, email,DOB & emergency contact details

  • Credit/Debit card to pay for entire team - your entry is not confirmed until it is paid for

 

The location of 2021 edition of the Southern Lakes Multisport Club 12/24 HR Adventure Race will be based in Oturehua in the Ida Valley.  Teams will explore an exciting, vast, undulating landscape. The 2021 Adventure Race may include kayaking, rafting, trekking/running, abseiling and mountain biking. 

Competitors race the 24/12HR Adventure Race in teams of either 2 or 4.  The race start times vary from year to year with the 12HR being predominantly raced during daylight hours, and the 24HR event featuring some hours of night racing.   

 

EQUIPMENT

Mountain Bike

  • Mountain Bike in good working order

  • Bike Helmet (NZ/AS standards approved)

  • Front white & Rear Red Lights (100m visibility) 

  • Pump/repair kit/tube/lube

  • All individual compulsory gear to be carried on mountainbike stage

Water:

  • Paddle

  • PFD (meets AS/NZ standards)

  • All individual compulsory gear to carried on kayak stage

Spray skirt, and AR Duo Kayak Provided

Each Team is required to carry:

 

  • First aid kit
    -1.5m unstretched roll 5cm wide crepe bandage
    -5m roll of 2cm wide strapping tape
    -10 band aid strips
    -triangular blanket
    -scissors/knife
    -4 pain relief tablets

  • Phone (in waterproof bag)

  • Maps & Control Card

  • Mountain Bike repair kit

  • Kayak repair kit (duct tape)

Strongly Recommended:

  • Sunscreen

  • Anti-chafe

INDIVIDUAL GEAR

Each Team Member is required to carry:

  • Thermal top and bottom (long sleeve)

  • Themal Gloves/Wool (full finger)

  • Thermal Hat/Wool (Buffs not accepted)

  • Waterproof jacket (seam sealed)

  • Waterproof pants

  • Long Sleeve Thermal Mid Layer Top

  • Foil Survival Bag

  • Whistle

This is the minimum gear to be carried.  The compulsory gear must be carried on each leg of the race regardless of discipline

  • 1hr 50min drive from Queenstown

  • 1hr 40min drive from Wanaka

  • 45min drive from Alexandra

  • 1hr 50min drive from Dunedin

  • 5hr drive from Christchurch

  • 3hr 10min drive from Invercargill

There are lots of accommodation options avaible in and around Oturehua and associated with the Central Otago Rail Trail.  Some of the near by accommodation providers allow camping too.

  • Race entry numbers capped
    24hr Race will have 100 entrants
    12hr Race will have 100 entrants
    (This means 100 individuals, which will be spread amongst 2 and 4 person teams)

  • We ask that supporters stay home

  • Maintain safe physical distancing where possible

  • Face coverings will be mandatory for registration, any indoor activity and at briefing, face coverings must be worn if teams enter any shops/cafes during the race, so plan to carry a buff/mask with you for the event

  • 12 and 24 hour events will have separate start times, briefings and camping areas, please respect these divisions between the events, and stick to your own areas and schedule

  • Ensure every member of your team signs in/scans the Covid QR code and utilises hand sanitiser

Race Refund Policy

If you withdraw from the 12/24hr Adventure Race, or the race is cancelled prior to 5 November 2021, a full refund of the entry fee will be available.

If you withdraw from the 12/24hr Adventure Race, or the race is cancelled between 5 November 2021, and 25 November 2021, a 50% refund of the entry fee will be available
