Entry Fee: $210/pp Entries close 5th November

The 24HR Adventure Race is a navigation race, with teams being supplied with maps.  Check point locations are pre-marked.  There is a race guide to assist your team to navigate through the race.

Support Crew: Support crews are unnecessary as each leg of the race is run from a central hub.  If the course requires that gear needs to be moved for a leg, then this will be organised by the race.

Race Disciplines: The race may feature sections of paddling, rafting, mountain biking, trekking/running and abseiling

Completion Times: The 24HR course is set so that the fastest teams should be able to complete it in around 14-16 hours, while the endurance end of the pack might like to stay out for longer, with a maximum time allowed to complete the race of 24 hours.

The Race Hub & Finish Line

The Race Hub will be located at Old Paerau School and Finish Line location will be revealed closer to race day, but will be located somewhere central to the race in the Paerau area

Race Hub: This is where registration and gear checks will occur.  There will be plenty of parking and space for you to organise and prepare your kit and your team for the race.  This will be a good place for supporters/spectators to get a slice of the action and greet competitors as they finish.

Camping: Free limited camping will be available at the Old Paerau School.  Details to follow. 

Post Race: The famous SLMC 12/24HR Post Adventure Race Breakfast will be provided (breakfast included in the entry fee) for competitors at the prize giving - 8:30am Sunday 26 November.

The post race breakfast is a feast and a good opportunity to discuss nav choices etc and bask in the post race glow of having completed such an epic event.

Prize Giving: Prize giving will be held  from 8:30am on Sunday 26 November.

Team Captains enter the whole team.

The entry information that the Team Captain will require:

  • Team Name

  • Captains name, email address and phone

  • Other team memebrs names only

  • Emergency contact name and phone

  • Team Category/event

  • Credit/Debit card or bank deposit.  One payment for entire team.  Entry is not confirmed until payment received.

Entry Information

The location of 2023 edition of the Southern Lakes Multisport Club 12/24 HR Adventure Race location will be based out of Old Paerau School.  Prepare yourselves for a stunning location in Central Otago, where teams will get to explore an exciting, vast, undulating landscape. The 2023 Adventure Race may include kayaking, rafting, trekking/running, abseiling and mountain biking. 

Competitors race the 24/12HR Adventure Race in teams of either 2 or 4.  The race start times vary from year to year with the 12HR being predominantly raced during daylight hours, and the 24HR event featuring some hours of night racing.   

Compulsory Gear

EQUIPMENT

Mountain Bike

  • Mountain Bike in good working order

  • Bike Helmet (NZ/AS standards approved)

  • Front white & Rear Red Lights (100m visibility) 

  • Pump/repair kit/tube/lube

  • All individual compulsory gear to be carried on mountainbike stage

Water:

  • Paddle

  • PFD (meets AS/NZ standards)

  • All individual compulsory gear to carried on kayak stage

Spray skirt, and AR Duo Kayak Provided

Each Team is required to carry:

 

  • First aid kit
    -1.5m unstretched roll 5cm wide crepe bandage
    -5m roll of 2cm wide strapping tape
    -10 band aid strips
    -triangular blanket
    -scissors/knife
    -4 pain relief tablets

  • Phone (in waterproof bag)

  • Maps & Control Card

  • Mountain Bike repair kit

  • Kayak repair kit (duct tape)

Strongly Recommended:

  • Sunscreen

  • Anti-chafe

INDIVIDUAL GEAR

Each Team Member is required to carry:

  • Thermal top and bottom (long sleeve)

  • Themal Gloves/Wool (full finger)

  • Thermal Hat/Wool (Buffs not accepted)

  • Waterproof jacket (seam sealed)

  • Waterproof pants

  • Long Sleeve Thermal Mid Layer Top

  • Foil Survival Bag

  • Whistle

This is the minimum gear to be carried.  The compulsory gear must be carried on each leg of the race regardless of discipline

Old Paerau School (475 Upper Taieri-Paerau Road) will be the host destination for SLMC Adventure Race 2023

  • 2hr 45min drive from Queenstown

  • 2hr 30min drive from Wanaka

  • 1hr 30min drive from Alexandra

  • 2hr 5min drive from Dunedin

  • 5hr 40min drive from Christchurch

Race Refund Policy

If you withdraw from the 12/24hr Adventure Race, or the race is cancelled prior to 11 November 2023, a full refund of the entry fee will be available.

If you withdraw from the 12/24hr Adventure Race between 11 November 2023, and 24 November 2023, there will be no refund.
